C-suite and board dream job opportunities run as confidential retained search: full market map before a single approach, evidenced dossiers instead of CVs, and an offer strategy that survives the counter-offer. Stealth market entries and confidential replacements are standard practice.
Confidential by default
Most searches at this level run while an incumbent is still in post, or while the market must not know a change is coming. Confidentiality is assumed rather than requested, and the process is built around it: no advertised role, no third-party researchers, no candidate learns the client name before you have approved the approach.
Board and non-executive
Non-executive appointments are a different exercise. The question is not who can do the job but what the board is missing, and answering it honestly often means telling a chair that the gap is not the one they described.
